“U.R.P.s” (Uffici Relazioni Pubbliche = Public
Relation Offices) were introduced in the Italian public administration
in 1993.
It was suggested by a double need of the Italian
administration system:
on the one hand to institutionalize the emerging
culture of the principle of administrative transparency,
on the other to supply an instrument for the
relations between the citizen and the public administration.
They represent an instrument for the administration
to pinpoint users’ needs (that might also be a stimulus for their
internal improvement).
U.R.P.s grant social rights and reliable information
to citizens.
They are an efficient and effective multifunctional
point of reference, providing information both on municipal services and
many external ones such as Local Health Service, Ministry of Labour, Job
Centre, Police Headquarters and Stations, Public Revenue and Disability
Office.
The tourist competence of Albano Laziale U.R.P. has
been extended, as it supplies information in English and French on the
internet via e-mail.
It also deals with promoting tourism, welcoming
tourists and giving them information about staying and sightseeing.
